IBM mainframes systems although transparent to 99% of the world's population, touch the lives of all of us. In every industry and service from financial services to government, in science and manufacturing and in many other areas, they help run the world, handling more than 30 Billion transactions every day. The mainframe is here to stay and we need to address this situation sooner than later. This can be done in many ways, either re-training other ICT skills or re-deploying redundant skills from other areas of ICT. This development is of great concern to many large organisations.
